Sue, Georgia and I went for a two week holiday in Wales during June. The weather was fairly bad but I managed to make two early morning sessions. The first was to a bay on the north coast where the is a lovely National Trust village called Porth Dinllaen. I arrived before sun-rise (about 4:30am) and pottered about to find some good aspects. I used a sun compase the night before to work out where the sun would rise. Sure enough it did and promptly hid behind a cloud bank. For the brief time it was visable I was able to take a shot of the village bathed in golden light. After that I followed the sun's progress over the headland to the west where some interesting lighting followed.
On the second trip I planned to catch the sun across the lakes on Snowdon viewed from the Watkin path about 2500 feet up. I set off climbing at 2am in the pitch black and arrived at the ridge edge for about 4:30am. I don't think I actually saw the sun but there was some dramatic lighting. It pored down with rain for most of the return trip but I was ready for it! I went for breakfast to the Pinicle Cafe at Caple Curig and caught a wonderful clasic image of Snowdon across Llynnau Mymbyr. All in all a great morning out!
